Having a plant care app that is available on both Android and iOS is a great choice because even though you are currently using just one of these systems, you might change your device in the future, and you probably hope that your plants stay alive longer than the iPhone you might have.

So, when the transition happens, you will want your plant data to come with you, right?

Another plus would be if you happen to have an Android phone and an iPad, it would be cool to have your plant app be accessible to whichever device you might be using at the moment.

Best Houseplant Care Apps

PictureThis
PictureThis is an app that’s known for the great use of artificial intelligence.

The idea behind this app is that it’s able to recognize plants from an extensive plant collection of 27 million plant species, so if you find some plants that you like the look of, but don’t know the name of, it’s more than likely that PictureThis will have an answer for you.

Besides plant identification, this app has another feature that will help you keep your house plants alive.

With the use of the before-mentioned artificial intelligence, PictureThis can give you some very important gardening tips – if there are any plant problems with your green children, it’s very likely that it’ll recognize that, and also give you instructions about what you need to do.

If you happen to notice that there are some brown tips on your plant, just pull your phone camera up, and you’ll know exactly what your plant needs.

Another feature that is available besides taking care of your sick plants, is that PictureThis can give you general instructions about what your specific plant needs.

Just take a shot of your plant and PictureThis will tell you whether it needs more direct sunlight, what kind of soil would be best for it, and when you need to fertilize it.

All of these features are available for free, but if you’re plant parents who are willing to pay $30 for the premium version of the app, there are even more cool things in PictureThis for you.

You will have access to a gardening specialist, and you can chat with them whenever you have doubts or are in need of even more specific plant recommendations.

Keeping a plant journal in this app will give you the option to have customized reminders for watering, so you’ll be safe from both over and under watering your plants. And we all know how sensitive some plants are to that.

Overall, PictureThis is a great app to have in hand whether you’re a beginner in need of plant care tips or you’re one of the pro plant lovers!

Gardenia
If you are not a fan of having extremely detailed instructions and you like to keep everything straightforward and simple, then you should look no further than Gardenia.

This app will give you simple care instructions and reliable care reminders for your plants, without much distractions in the form of detailed plant descriptions.

For starters, you will need to know the name of the plants you need this for, and then find the exact plants in the database that Gardenia has.

After you’ve added a plant from the plant library to your list of plants, you will see six icons that will show you the most important requirements for that plant: what amount of water it needs, fertilization tips, preferred sun exposure, the recommended soil type, when are that plant’s blooming seasons, and what’s the minimum temperature needed for that plant to survive.

There’s one thing that’s unique about Gardenia – it doesn’t only have push notifications for watering and fertilizing.

On Gardenia you can personalize things a bit more and schedule dates for repotting, harvesting, pruning, and also getting your pesticides.

This plant journal app is overall great, but probably the best thing about it is the fact that it’s a completely free app!

There are no in-app purchases or anything of that nature, just simple, straightforward, and smart care reminders.

Gardenia is probably the easiest app for short but effective plant care tips, so if that’s all you need from an app, then this is what you should download.

Apps available on Android
While most apps nowadays are available on both Android and iOS, there are some exceptions.

Apps for plants are no different, and you will be able to get plant recommendations and care tips on your Android.

The best Android-exclusive plant app is Waterbot.

Waterbot
This app is perfect for you if you’re someone who has most of the plant facts down, but you have a habit of forgetting to water your plants.

As you probably know, different green companions prefer different watering schedules and levels of moisture, and it’s certainly a draining task to remember everything by heart.

Even if most plants in your collection have similar water requirements, it will probably help you greatly to have a little virtual assistant.

When it comes to the design of Waterbot, it’s simple and intuitive, so you won’t have much trouble with it, even if you’re not too tech-savvy.

The way it works is also as simple.

What you need to do is to add your plants and then generate individual watering plans for them.

Creating the watering schedule is not at all a daunting task even if it might sound like that, it doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes to work it all out.

When the time for watering the plants comes, you will get a memo from the app, and once you do water them, you can check that task as done. The chances of you skipping a watering are basically non-existent.

And the good news is that there are no limits as to how many plants you can add to this app, so don’t worry, your new plants won’t get left out.

Apps available on iOS
If you’re someone who is a lover of Apple products and you tend to always opt for them, there are a few plant care apps for you, too.

Planta
Planta is probably one of the best-known iOS apps when it comes to helpful information and cares instructions for both your garden plants and indoor plants. It can also help find plant names when you’re not sure about them.

Planta will cover basically any need you might have.

Planta has a lot of helpful resources for finding out something more about plants, which can also be quite fun if you love plants in general.

If you want to find out what your plant likes, just type in its name and you will find step-by-step care instructions that will make your life easier. You might even stop killing plants for good now!

To get the most out of it, you can set up smart care alerts that will remind you whenever your plants might need steaming, cleaning, or even fertilizing.

The schedules aren’t even your responsibility, the app will generate them for you! All you need to do is enter facts like what’s your plant’s variety, what’s your location, and what’s the usual weather for your region.

You can also enter what skill level you are in when it comes to gardening, and Planta will give you recommendations based on that.

Planta also has a built-in light meter that will help you decide in what light conditions you should keep your plants in. Think things like which light intensity, whether they prefer partial sun, full sun, or maybe full shade, and so on.

Most of these features come with the free version of the app, but there are some premium features as well that you get if you subscribe to Planta Premium.

One of these premium features is Dr. Planta that can help using Plantas plant scanner.

This app is a great choice, especially if you’re willing to also get into the premium content.

Sun Seeker
As you might guess from the name, this app is made to help you with tracking the Sun’s movement.

If you’re new to plants you might not be sure why you need a whole up for this, but other plant lovers who are pros will probably be delighted to know about an app like this.

Some plants prefer shade, some prefer being in direct sunlight, and some like a little bit of both, so this app is here to find a perfect place for every single one of your plant children.

Sometimes, getting all your plants the appropriate sunlight levels is more important than any other care tips.

Sun Seeker is not an app specifically made for plant parents, but it does an amazing job of being a light meter.

Another thing other gardeners found helpful in this app is that it gives you precise sunset and sunrise timings, so if you have some plants that need to be moved from one place to another depending on that, it has you covered.

The movements of the Sun are being tracked and visualized in 3D so you will be able to notice even the smallest changes during the day.

If you happen to be at work or if you’re not too alert about the Sun while you’re home, you can also set notifications that will inform you whenever there’s a change, so you can act accordingly.

The only thing you’ll need to have the app work is a stable internet connection, as Sun Seeker runs on GPS.

With this app, your Sun lovers will be sure to always get all the lighting they need!

FAQ
What Is The Best Free Plant Care App?
The best overall plant care app is Planta. Even though there are some premium features, you can absolutely get everything you need from this app even if you only use the ones that are free. This app is often marketed promising that you won’t ever kill a plant again, and that’s not far from the truth. It provides you with everything you need and it’s not at all complicated to use.

Is There An App To Identify House Plants?
Most plant care apps also have a feature for identifying plants, but the best overall is the app called PictureThis. PictureThis has a library of 27 million plants and besides being able to identify plants, it can also identify what’s the state of your plant and then give you instructions on what to do with it. Simply upload photos of the plant you want to check, and the app will take it from there.

Can Google Identify My Plant?
There’s always an option to google the specifics of a plant you liked in order to find its name, however, Google alone won’t be too helpful with this, as a lot of plants look a lot alike. It’s best to download an app that’s made specifically for identifying plants. You can use Google’s app called Google Lens for this, but if you also need an app for plant care, then consider downloading PictureThis or Planta.

For the first product on our list, we have the cloud lab 844, which is a 4 x 4 grow tent from AC Infinity. AC infinity is a well-known company with a rather interesting past.

Their main goal is to provide the market with innovative solutions and rather practical ones.

Who is it best for?
This product can overall be useful for anybody that likes indoor gardening. With its rather simple but sturdy design, it is perfect for new growers.

With thick canvas walls to contain light leaks and sturdy steel poles to hold your tent, fans, and grow lights, makes it suitable for anyone.

It can be placed literally in any room that you seem fitting, your bedroom, your basement, or even in your closet.

This product is specially designed for indoor gardening. With this grow tent outdoor gardening will be a thing of the past, with this awesome product you can grow your plants all year-round.

When you think about the growth stages, any plant, in any stage can be grown in this tent.

With this grow tent your plants will thrive. By creating an optimal environment for your plant and ideal climate conditions inside the tent.

Key features
One of the most useful things that came to my eye was the waterproof floor tray.

This can always come in handy, no one wants to make a mess if an accidental spillage happens when you water the plants that are inside.

Also one of the top reasons why we choose this particular product to be on our list is the overall good quality of the whole product and all of its parts.

Meaning, the AC Infinity uses 22m thick and sturdy construction poles and support beams. Really high-quality materials create a resilient frame that supports up to 150 lbs of fans or grow lights.

One of the most common fears when buying grow tents is the light leaks. This grow tent is made of long-lasting canvas.

What do I mean by that? Well, this product is made of 2000D oxford canvas (one of the best out there).

Not only that but this 2000D canvas is also reinforced with more layers and with cross-patterned diamond mylar walls. This feature amplifies light reflectivity.

The observation window is located on the side. Thus, you can check on the grow cycle of your plant without jeopardizing the climate inside the grow tent.

The zippers are sealed by inner stitching, by doing this the possibility of light leaks is minimized.

Last but not least comes the aluminum plate that affixes any controller onto the grow tent. The design of the cutout of cables is also done pretty well.

The aluminum plate is paired with a cutout that is doubled with rear pathing so that cables can come through but light can’t.

Pros
Overall good quality
Easy to assemble
Easy to use
Cons
The 3 vents that allow air in, may also cause a light leak

  1. VIVOSUN 4 x 4 Grow Tent

Who is it best for?
As with any other grow tent this one is also a good choice for all of your out there that want to do some indoor gardening.

Whether you are a new gardener or an experienced one this product will suit your needs.

Built for almost any plant out there, either if you are starting a new growing operation or if you have a mature plant this product will do you good.

This particular grow tent is favored amongst cannabis growers because of its almost perfect build for their needs.

But overall this Vivosun tent can satisfy most growers’ needs.

Key features
Unlike the previous model on our list, this one is built out of 600D oxford cloth. I must say both 2000D and 600D didn’t show any signs of weakness.

With the 600D cloth comes the heavy-duty zippers, together these two features will ensure the durability of the product and above all prevent light leaks.

The good thing for new growers is that this grow tent is overall easy to set up.

It can take from just 10 to 20 minutes to adjust the tent. All you need to do is to connect the steel frame and the tent over it and you are good to go.

The frame is made of high-quality metals, therefore the frame can easily withstand all kinds of grow lights and ventilation systems.

This grow tent comes with multiple vent ports and with an observation window.

With this feature, you can monitor your plants’ behavior without the decimation of the climate inside the grow tent.

One more cool feature is that this product comes with a one-year warranty for an easy state of mind.

The recommended ventilation is a 6″ inline fan. I went with the recommended fan and I must suggest that you go with the same one too.

This grow tent also comes with a spill tray. The spill tray is very easy to set up in your grow tent.

You just need to attach it to the corners of the floor and you are good to go. When you need to clean it, just simply detach it, clean it, and put it back in.

When you think about the price of this thing, it has an outstanding value.

Pros
Easy to use
Easy to set up
Good quality-price ratio
Cons
If the window and the ventilation ports are not covered properly they may allow light leaks through

  1. VIVOSUN 4 x 4 Grow Tent Gray

Check on Amazon
Easy to setup
Good quality materials
Easy to use
Now, we have a very similar product to our last one. This is also a VIVOSUN grow tent, just unlike the previous green-lined one, this is completely grey.

For some users, some people may like this one better because it has no background colors and overall fewer distractions.

Specs
Product Dimensions: 48″ x 48″ x 80″
Product Weight: 30 lbs
Package Diminsions: 49.2 x 9.44 x 5.3 inches
Suggested Plant Count: 6-9
Who is it best for?
As I said above, this is one nice-looking grow tent. It can be used in multiple scenarios such as flowering, vegetation, and propagation.

Making it perfect for all stages in plants growth.

For someone, a smaller tent might be an optimal solution. But for me, a 4 x 4 grow tent is a perfect choice.

You can basically store this grow tent anywhere in your home or garage. It basically fits anywhere.

Grow tents are used for all-year-round indoor growing. For a better growth rate be sure to have the right grow light (light system).

The recommended lighting is 600w, I went with the Viparspectra 600w LED grow light with daisy chain function (you can do that as well).

Key Features
Just like the previous model on our list, this one is also made of 600D oxford fabric.

Polyethylene material is also a part of the fabric as well as the diamond mylar. The usage of the mylar is pretty much essential to your plant’s growth.

With the help of the mylar, 98% of the light gets reflected. One of the most important things and one of my personal favorites is the PA material (Polyethylene).

The PA is completely odorless and non-toxic, it contains 0% heavy metals and 0% phthalates. That makes this grow tent very safe and durable.

As you might expect this grow tent also has a strong and sturdy metal frame. If it was any other way, this product wouldn’t be on our list.

The frame is sturdy but so are the corners as well. The seals are tight reinforced, and the zippers are well made.

With all this combined, we get a pretty neat and high-quality grow tent that has minimal light seepage but also reflects all of the usable light insides.

As you might already guess, the Vivosun grow tent backs up its quality with a one-year warranty.

This grow tent was overall very easy to set up and adjust.

The observation window is also very helpful if you just want to glance at your plant for a few seconds. The grow tent also includes one large front door as well as two side access doors.

For a more improved and easier growing, this grow tent allows you to monitor humidity, temperature, and lights for better growth.

Pros
Easy to setup
Good quality materials
Easy to use
Cons
Can’t say it has an excellent value (It’s very similar to the previous model on our list but costs more)

  1. VIVOSUN 4 x 4 Grow Tent Basic Kit with VS4000

Check on Amazon
All of the necessary stuff for growth are included
High-quality items
Overall good quality
For the last product on our list, we have something a little bit different. With this Vivosun product, you will get the whole grow kit.

Therefore, if you don’t have the time or just simply don’t know how to assemble your own growing tent, this is the solution for you.

Specs
Product Dimensions: 48″ x 48″ x 80″
Package Weight: 30.7 lbs
Package Size: 60.62 x 11.75 x 6.75
Product Weight: 17.46 lbs
Who is it best for?
Unlike the other products we have on this list, this one is complete. What do I mean by that?

Obviously, this product comes with all the necessary accessories, if I may call them like that, that you need for your grow tent to be complete.

Therefore, I must say, this product is best for all of you beginners out there. If you want to buy your first grow tent, give this one a go.

The cool thing about this product is that you can get it cheaper like this when it’s all together than to buy every part separately.

The only downfall of this product is that some plants need a particular light or environment. But if these accessories are suitable for your plants, most certainly give them a go.

Key Features
Just like all the products on our list, this one as well has the 98% reflective Mylar. With it is a standard Vivosun pick, a 340g oxford 600D cloth.

The cloth is tear-proof, the canvas also helps with the prevention of light leaking, and it’s good for all kinds of indoor plants.

The construction frame is well made out of premium steel. Therefore, all of your equipment and everything else can be supported by it.

VS4000
One of the awesome things that come with this grow tent is the VS2000.

The VS4000 is good for both seeding and flowering stages, the best thing about it is that it is extremely quiet, light-weighted, and low energy cost.

The VS4000 uses Samsung LM301h diodes, sunlike full spectrum, and dimmable Sosen driver. Samsung LEDs are widely used in grow lights industry since 2019.

Note:

LEDs are, as I said above, energy-efficient and overall good for growing tents. But sometimes HID lights are needed, HID light uses high-pressure sodium or metal halide, and good for all growing stages.

These diodes are well known for their quality, such as the long span of the units, as well as the growing results themselves. The Vs2000 unit also comes with a 3-year warranty.

Protective glasses
One of the most underrated accessories that go with this grow tent is definitely the protective glasses.

These glasses will protect your eyes from UVA as well as the UVB rays. They can alleviate glare and the most important thing, they will reduce eye soreness while working with grow lights.

Inline duct fan
The next thing you are getting if you choose to buy this product is the 6″ inline duct fan.

This fan is known for its quietness as well as its efficiency. It has a power of 2300 RPM (fan speed) for an airflow of 190 CMF.

This fan will move the air throughout your grow tent without any problems.

Carbon filter
One of the best filters on the market, this 6″ Carbon filter will eliminate chemical trails and nasty odors. It can capture up to three times more air contamination than the average filters.

Things to consider when buying grow tents

  1. Quality of the frame
The first thing to look out for when buying a grow tent is the materials from which the frame is built. Always go for the sturdy steel or metal frames instead of the plastic ones.
  2. Overall quality of the grow tents
What do I mean by this? Just look out for any possible tears, gaps, or anything that can leak light.

Always check the quality of the zippers, windows, doors, and so on. The last thing you would want is for your new grow tent to have light leaks.

FAQ

  1. How Many Plants Can I Grow In a 4 x 4 Tent?
Well, the answer to that question may differ because of the size of your plants (which part of the growing cycle they are in). But the most common suggestion is somewhere between 4-8.
  2. How Do You Set Up a 4 x 4 Tent?
All grow tents come with a detailed explanation (manual) on how to set them up. Basically, you will get some steel poles, some corner edges (connectors), and a tent itself. From there on out it’s like doing a simple puzzle. Just connect the frame and put the tent over it. You are also going to add a grow light, a filter, a fan, and all the essential elements that go with it.

Conclusion
That should be all on the given subject. I hope that I could, in any way, make the choice easier for you and shine some light when it comes to buying a grow tent.

Good day and good luck to all of you fellow growers out there.
