Unlike some of the other tools I’ve outlined today, Screaming Frog is a software you download and run straight from your computer. The interface can look intimidating but speaks to the amount of information it gives you.
Instead of manually inspecting areas such as what I just mentioned, this software will do it all for you within minutes and provide a neat spreadsheet of the data it finds.

Can seo be automated
Search engine optimization – or SEO, as it is popularly known – is the process of setting up your business to appear in organic search engine results on popular search engines like Google . The process of SEO has been around since the beginning of the internet, but many business owners remain confused about the limitations of quick-fix solutions and automated approaches to SEO.
I’ve worked in the SEO industry for 17 years and was the founder and former CEO of search and affiliate marketing powerhouse Pepperjam, which I sold to eBay Enterprise in 2009. I’m now the founder and CEO of LSEO.com, a fast-growing company that focuses on helping funded startups and enterprise companies dominate on Google.
For me, the idea of “quick-fix SEO” has always been one of the first myths I attempt to dispel right out of the gate with prospective clients. I’m sure that many of my clients are sick of me telling them that “SEO takes time” and that “you need to think long-term.” However, from where I sit, SEO is a labor-intensive process that requires manual expert involvement and SEO software alone can’t automate the process.
But I’m only one opinion, so I set out to explore if views from another leading expert differ and if legitimate quick-fix solutions exist to automate the process of SEO.
One reality of the last decade is that countless easy-to-use content and website management tools like WordPress and Wix have proliferated and so have SEO software and tools companies like Searchmetrics and SEMrush. However, I’m not personally convinced by out-of-the-box automated SEO solutions, so I decided to explore the topic further by interviewing one of my long-time friends, Joost de Valk. He is the founder and creator of the popular Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin, which has been downloaded nearly 30 million times.
In talking, we attempted to address a simple question: “Can SEO be automated?”
A Closer Look At SEO Automation
The two of us agree: There have been many software companies (including our own) that have attempted to automate the process of SEO. But in reality, the process of SEO requires a lot of work beyond what can be done by the available tools on the market today. Website owners are misguided by “set it and forget it” types of approaches to SEO.
“Good software can take all the technical pains away, but in no way can any software ever take away the content development task, or the real marketing side of things. This is something people are often mistaken about. They think installing one plugin or running one or a few pieces of software will magically get them higher rankings. It’s just not that simple,” de Valk said.
According to him, SEO tools can make your life easier when it comes to effective SEO, but it can’t replace the hard work that is required over a sustained period of time to rank well on Google. SEO is a process, not a solution.
Since the process of SEO cannot be fully automated, it begs the question: What are some of the tools and strategies that experts use to automate aspects of the process?
SEO Task Automation Tools And Considerations
While the process of SEO takes a considerable investment of time and can not be simply automated in its entirety, there are a lot of great SEO tools to help automate particularly monotonous SEO tasks, such as generating keywords, analyzing backlinks, and monitoring rankings. To be fair, SEO tools save a lot of time, even if they don’t allow for complete automation. All of the recommended tools in this section have free versions, but extended use or complex requests require paid subscriptions. Most reputable SEO companies have premium access to all of the listed tools and more.
One of the most used tools for automating everyday SEO tasks such as keyword research and monitoring rankings is SEMrush. With SEMrush, you can cross, combine and visualize data to compare competitive domains and estimate keyword difficulty; this type of competitive research tool provides key insights into competition and helps you benchmark against your competition.
While SEMrush is an outstanding everyday tool for most basic SEO tasks, another powerful tool that is popular with larger businesses is Searchmetrics. The Searchmetrics Suite offers enterprise SEO and content marketing analysis, recommendations, forecasting and reporting. It also offers keyword tracking technology, SEO visibility scoring, and competitive research tools.
Majestic is a tool that provides insight into domain authority and helps you better understand the quantity and quality of links coming into your site and that of your competition. Majestic is particularly powerful for purposes of putting together a strategy to build more links to your website.
Forbes Agency Council is an invitation-only community for executives in successful public relations, media strategy, creative and advertising agencies. Do I qualify?
Conclusion
SEO is a labor-intensive process that cannot be entirely automated. If you are sold an “automated” solution, don’t assume there isn’t a lot of additional work to be done in order to maximize your website rankings on Google. Nevertheless, there are quite a few proven SEO tools that will save you time and help you execute a successful SEO campaign.
