If you’re like me, you get bored easily when listening to the same old songs over and over again. And what’s worse: sometimes I can’t even tell if I’m listening to a song or not! That’s why I’ve put together this list of the best apps for Android Radio so that you can discover new music from all over the world without having to worry about getting bored with your favorite songs or being able to tell when something new has come on.

Remember years ago, when you’d be sitting in your kitchen, messing around with your radio’s antenna, trying to find a channel that’s not just static? It feels like the need for a radio has long since passed, especially in younger generations.
But what if you still want to listen to radio without actually having one? If that’s the case, check out these five apps for listening to the radio from your phone.

TuneIn is your go-to app for all things audio. It has hundreds of different stations, including news, talk, and music radio. TuneIn will show you which stations are popular in your area, which focus on sports, news, and which are local to you. You can also find stations in a range of different languages.
On top of radio, TuneIn gives you access to podcasts that span a range of topics, like true crime, mindfulness, comedy, and technology. You can favorite specific radio and podcast channels so that you can easily go back to them at any time, which saves you the process of searching for your favorite stations each time.
You can also use the app’s car mode option if you want to listen to radio or podcasts on the go. Car mode is essentially a far more basic version of the app: a simple black and white screen with four main options: favorites, recents, recommended, and voice search. You can only voice search for stations via car mode, rather than searching manually, making for a much safer experience on the road.

The TuneIn app does show regular ads during your listening time, but these can be removed with the premium version, which costs around $10 a month. The premium version also offers content that you cannot access using the free version.

My Radio gives you access to a huge range of radio stations, music, and talk shows—50,000 of them, in fact. The app operates in a similar way to TuneIn Radio, where you can refine your search to talk radio, news, sports, and more. The layout is slightly more slick, looking more similar to Spotify than anything else.
You can find stations and shows from around the world by browsing content in the app’s Countries option. Here, you can find stations from Poland to China, Japan to Jamaica. You can also browse through a number of different genres, including classical, alternative, house, and oldies.
If you find some stations you love, you can like your chosen stations and keep them on your Favorites page, so that you can get back to listening to them quickly and easily.
The My Radio app does have a premium version, with which you can get rid of ads, set a sleep timer, and access higher quality sound. But you can access the majority of the features with the free version alone, as long as you don’t mind the ads!

This is perfect for those who just want to listen to their favorite radio stations, rather than talk shows and podcasts.
You can either scroll through the list of radio stations on the app to find the right one for you, or you can simply search your desired station via the app’s search bar option. You can also create a favorites list so that you can get back to listening to your top stations quickly without having to do a search.

Dash Radio is a great app for accessing all things audio. However, it works a little differently from the other apps mentioned here. Instead of offering your typical, big-name radio stations, Dash Radio has its own set of channels focused on a wide range of different musical genres, from jazz, to electric, to pop, and beyond.
All of the content produced and offered by Dash Radio is totally original, with over 80 of its own stations and almost 500 different radio personalities. You can find such stations as Afrobeats, Disco Fever, Grunge, Pure Soul, and Y2K. Regardless of the decade, or genre, Dash Radio will have the kind of music you’re looking for.
There’s even a SoundCloud radio station available with hundreds of original tracks to listen to.
You also won’t have to deal with frustrating ads during your listening time when using Dash Radio, which is a plus. But be mindful that the app will automatically favorite stations that match the genre preferences you enter when signing up, so, if you’d rather start from scratch finding favorites on your own, simply skip this phase of signup.
