Norton is one of the big shots in the antivirus software industry, boasting more than 20 million users throughout the world. And it comes as no surprise. After all, itâs a damn good antimalware tool, saving countless devices from viruses every single day.
But what does it offer for iPhone and iPad users specifically? The Norton 360 antivirus app for iOS does lots of pretty useful stuff. For example, it filters spam text messages that may contain phishing attempts. The app also warns you against unsecured wifi networks and patches various device vulnerabilities.
In addition, the Web Protection feature will prevent you from visiting infected websites. Another great feature that will enhance your online security is called Dark Web Monitoring. It will let you know whether any of your personal info has been leaked.
Whatâs more, the Norton antivirus app for iPhone and iPad lets you use a VPN (unfortunately, this feature is unavailable in some countries).
Pros
Spam filter
Real-time protection
Integrated VPN
Data breach checker

Cons

- TotalAV – real-time protection and VPN

As one of the best antivirus choices for iPhone and iPad, TotalAV disappoints neither in the security nor the feature department.
Even their free version isn’t entirely useless. It has a data breach checker, a device locator, a photo manager, and a battery monitor – all of this for a price of $0.00.
However, the paid version is what most will be looking for – the paid iOS app includes two extra features. These are called WebShield and Private Connection VPN. The former protects your iOS device real-time while the latter functions as a full-blown VPN tool.
The real-time protection feature, in particular, is what makes it worth it to pay for the full subscription. Especially if you have devices other than your iPhone and iPad.
TotalAV boasts excellent virus detection rates and will surely prevent any threats from entering your phone or computer. Keeping in mind the current dangers of the internet, itâs a great investment.

If you want an all-round antivirus app for iPhone and iPad, look no further than McAfee. It wonât fail to keep any of your devices safe while also offering some of the coolest security features.
So, how does the iOS version of McAfee stand out from the crowd? Firstly, it will stop any online threats from entering your system thanks to the real-time protection feature. Next, it will perform regular system security scans to detect wifi attacks and outdated software.
Also, McAfee iOS lets you locate a lost or stolen device by using a GPS tracker or activating a remote alarm. Aside from that, the appâs Media Vault feature will protect your personal photos and videos with a PIN code. The application will also backup your contact information automatically.
The Premium Plus version of McAfee also offers an unlimited VPN that will let you browse the web safely even when using public wifi.
Thereâs also a 7-day free trial for the Premium version that you can download to your iPhone or iPad. Even though you need to enter your credit card details to get it, you can cancel it anytime without paying.
Pros

If youâre looking for an excellent antimalware solution for your iPhone, Bitdefender can be an excellent solution. To put it simply, itâs not just a good antivirus tool with stellar virus detection rates. Itâs also a well-rounded security suite that will please users of all kinds of devices, including iOS.
So, how does Bitdefender cater to Apple fans? By including lots of useful features, of course.
For example, their iOS app scans network connections and blocks anything suspicious. In addition, it also includes a VPN with a limit of 200 MB a day. While not much, this means you wonât need to subscribe to a separate VPN service if you only need a VPN for browsing.
But thatâs not all. Bitdefender iOS also allows you to scan your email address for potential breaches, letting you know your security status online.
Finally, thanks to the Bitdefender Central platform, you can view the status of all the other devices under the same Bitdefender account. Here, you can change the parental control settings, too.
In case youâre still unsure about getting Bitdefender, Iâll tell you this: itâs the only antivirus solution that won the AV-Comparativesâ Product of the Year award four times in total. This fact alone is a hint that Bitdefender has a lot to offer.
Pros
Excellent virus detection rates
Real-time protection
VPN (200 MB/day)
Data breach checker
Free version available
Cons
A bit expensive
- Avira – a good lightweight solution
Avira antivirus
Free version: Yes
Dedicated iPhone app: Yes
VPN included: Yes
Current deal: đ„ Get 1 year of Avira at 40% OFF! đ„
Visit Avira
Avira is a great lightweight all-rounder tool. Aside from being a good antivirus solution for Windows, Mac, and Android, Avira also offers a great application for iOS devices.
Just like the iOS antivirus apps described above, Avira has an integrated VPN (100 MB a day) that comes together with the antimalware software. It also has a few features that iPhone users might really appreciate.
My favorite feature is the one that prevents Siri from logging your Siri commands onto Appleâs servers. The Avira app can also secure your connection when youâre using public wifi, as well as detect other smart devices using your home network.
In addition, the application will update your software regularly, create a backup of your files, and help you recover your lost or stolen iOS device.
Of course, letâs not forget that Avira is a good antivirus and antimalware tool in general. And as a single Avira account can be used on multiple devices, you can easily protect all the phones and computers you own.
Pros
Unique privacy features
Free version
Public wifi protection
Software updater
File backup
Cons
Free VPN very limited (100 MB/day)
Might report false positives
How we tested and selected these antiviruses
Itâs a shame that most iOS antivirus applications are just worse versions of their Windows counterparts. Most of them are stripped down of features and functionality. Some antivirus apps for iOS donât even offer real-time protection, which is the entire point of antivirus software.
To select only the best antivirus for iPhone and iPad, we eliminated all the ones that lack real-time protection against viruses and malware. Then, we hand-picked the apps that offer the most features for iOS users.
However, features are only a part of what makes an antivirus tool good. We downloaded every single app that showed at least a bit of potential and tested them to see how smoothly they function.
After ditching the apps that arenât user-friendly and glitch-free, we did some research on the malware detection rates of the applications that were left. In particular, we looked at tests by AV-Comparatives.
At the end, we were left with only a few antivirus apps for iOS.
How to choose the best antivirus app for iPhone?
If, after reading this list, you still canât decide which antivirus tool to download to your iPhone, you can consider a few things that will help you decide.
Letâs begin with the price. Are you ready to pay for an antivirus tool, or is a free version enough for you? Keep in mind that free antimalware apps usually donât offer real-time protection. So, youâll have to trust Appleâs built-in security features for that.
CyberNews pro tip
Free antimalware apps usually don’t offer reliable real-time protection. If you’re looking for that â pick a reliable antivirus provider offering premium iOS security features, like Bitdefender or Norton.

Then, you should take a look at the features. Consider whether you need functions like file backup, a data breach checker, a device locator, a VPN, etc.
There’s one more thing. As a single subscription to an antivirus tool usually covers multiple devices, you might want to think about protecting your devices that run on operating systems other than iOS.
Luckily, all the software on this list offers great apps for Windows, Android, and macOS. Iâd recommend reading the full review of the tool that catches your eye for a greater insight of the softwareâs functionality.
How do I install an antivirus on my iOS?
Even if youâve never done this before, installing an antivirus application on your iPhone or iPad is super easy. Just follow these steps and youâll be using your antimalware application in no time:
Open the App Store and search for the application you want
Download the application onto your iOS device and open it
You may be asked to accept the appâs license agreement and privacy notice
Sign into your existing account or create a new one
Follow the application instructions and finish setting up the app
Secure your iPhone with Norton
Do I need a security app for my iPhone?
Yes, an antivirus on iPhone can be necessary, albeit less so than on operating systems like Windows or Android.
If you try googling âDoes iPhone need antivirus softwareâ, youâll get lots and lots of mixed results. Some websites insist that iOS devices donât ever need an antivirus tool and youâll be wasting your time getting one, while others try to scare you into downloading one immediately.
The truth is, your iPhone can get a virus, but the chances are slim. The reason behind such security is the fact that iOS sandboxes all the downloaded applications, limiting their access to your system. This makes downloading apps to your iPhone a much safer pastime than doing the same on your Android.
However, a virus has a much bigger chance of infecting your iPhone or iPad if you have âjailbrokenâ your device, i.e. removed the software restrictions imposed by Apple. You might have done so to download an app or extension not approved by the App Store.
Another way of accidentally infecting your iOS device is visiting malware-infested pages. Even using the Safari search engine doesnât guarantee 100% security. Thatâs because certain vulnerabilities might allow malware to escape the sandbox.

1.đ„ McAfee Mobile Security for iOS â Best Free iOS Security App in 2022
1.đ„ McAfee Mobile Security for iOS â Best Free iOS Security App in 2022
McAfee Security is a super intuitive app that offers a great range of iOS security features. Itâs not 100% free, but it currently offers a huge 180-day free trial of its premium features, which is the longest free trial of any iOS security app.
I was very impressed with McAfeeâs web protections, which prevented me from accessing multiple verified phishing sites, including fake banking login pages.
McAfeeâs iOS app also includes:
Wi-Fi scanner.
VPN (with unlimited data).
Data breach alerts.
McAfeeâs Wi-Fi scanner is pretty good â itâs an on-demand scanner that will notify you if youâre using an unsafe Wi-Fi network. It notified me whenever I was on my local coffee shopâs public Wi-Fi, which isnât a secured network.
I also like the VPN, which is very easy to set up. The VPN provided good speeds during all of my tests, but I was disappointed that I couldnât choose a server location â it automatically chose the server closest to me. If you want a better VPN, Iâd recommend looking for a VPN that offers a choice of servers and more advanced features.
You can get McAfeeâs paid mobile plans with an individual subscription or bundled with McAfeeâs 2-year Total Protection subscriptions (starting at $49.99 / year), which cover up to 10 devices, including iOS, Mac, Android, and Windows devices.
Bottom Line:
McAfee is my favorite free iOS security app in 2022. Itâs very intuitive and one of the most easy-to-setup apps available. It includes a great set of features and include accurate protection against malicious sites. Itâs not 100% free, but its 180-day free trial makes it a great option for anyone looking to protect their device without paying anything for 6 months.

2.đ„ Avira Free Mobile Security for iOS â Excellent iOS Privacy Features + VPN
2.đ„ Avira Free Mobile Security for iOS â Excellent iOS Privacy Features + VPN
Avira Free Mobile Security for iOS provides more free features than any other free iOS app â and all of its features are useful, intuitive, and provide an additional layer of protection for iPhones and iPads.
One of the things I like most about Aviraâs iOS app is the Privacy Manager feature, which is a downloadable iOS profile that prevents Siri from sharing your data with Apple â once installed, this profile prevents Siri from logging commands on Appleâs servers, which is great if youâre trying to minimize the amount of personal data that big businesses can collect from you.
Avira Mobile Security also offers a ton of additional security features, including:
VPN (100 MB daily limit).
Anti-theft protection.
Network scanner.
Device analyzer.
Photo storage manager.
Contacts backup.
Iâm a big fan of Aviraâs VPN, which provides fast encrypted internet access with a no-logs guarantee â so your browsing history is totally private! However, the VPN has a daily limit of 100 MB and it only lets you connect to one server location. Upgrading to Avira Phantom VPN Pro ($4.32 / month) gets you unlimited data and a variety of global server locations.
Avira Free Mobile Security for iOS is a great free app, but Aviraâs paid plans offer a lot more. Avira Security Pro for iOS adds anti-phishing, spam call blocking, and data breach monitoring. To add unlimited VPN data and Aviraâs premium password managers, you can try Avira Prime Mobile, which you can get as part of the Avira Prime package ($59.99 / year) â it includes all of Aviraâs features and coverage for up to 5 devices, including iOS, macOS, Windows, and Android devices.
Bottom Line:
Aviraâs features make it a great free antivirus app for iPhones and iPads. Its Privacy Monitor feature will allow you to use Siri without having your interactions logged by Apple, and its anti-theft tools, call blocker, and VPN (limited to 100 MB/day) are all excellent. However, if youâre looking for web protections, a VPN with no limitations, and a secure password manager, youâll need to upgrade to Avira Prime Mobile, which is available for a monthly subscription or as part of the larger Avira Prime antivirus package.

3.đ„ TotalAV Mobile Security â Good Range of Free Features for iOS
3.đ„ TotalAV Mobile Security â Good Range of Free Features for iOS
TotalAV Mobile Security provides a secure web browser and an on-demand data breach scanner. TotalAVâs secure browser uses DuckDuckGo, a privacy-focused search engine, to ensure that users can access the web without being tracked or targeted by advertisers (DuckDuckGo is one of our top choices for the most secure web browser in 2022).
TotalAV also has a breach scanning feature that scans breach databases for compromised emails â I was relieved to see that my test Gmail account is still secure, but I wasnât surprised to discover that my Hotmail account from 2005 has been a part of numerous data breaches in the last several years. That said, I still prefer Nortonâs data breach monitoring feature that looks for a wide range of information, like stolen credit card details, driving licenses, and much more.
TotalAV also provides a few more free features, including:
Device locator.
Photo cleanup.
Battery manager.
System security.
TotalAVâs device locator is a basic anti-theft tool that lets you track your iPhone if it gets lost, but while itâs free to turn on device tracking, youâll need to upgrade to track your device if itâs lost.
Upgrading to TotalAV Mobile Security Premium gets you anti-phishing protection and a VPN with no limitations â during my tests, TotalAVâs VPN provided fast, reliable connections to a variety of servers worldwide, and it was even able to unblock geo-restricted streaming content on Netflix (TotalAVâs VPN is one of the best antivirus-bundled VPNs on the market). TotalAV Mobile Security Premium is also included with TotalAVâs antivirus packages, which start at $19.00 / year and cover up to 6 devices across all operating systems.
Bottom Line:
TotalAV Mobile Security provides a lot of free features, including a secure browser and a data breach scanner. TotalAVâs other free features are pretty good too, including a device locator, duplicate photo cleanup, and a battery manager. Upgrading to TotalAV Mobile Security Premium gets you anti-phishing protection and unlimited VPN usage. Thereâs a 30-day money-back guarantee on all of TotalAVâs premium plans.

- Kaspersky Security Cloud Free for iOS â Decent Free VPN & Security Breach Scan
- Kaspersky Security Cloud Free for iOS â Decent Free VPN & Security Breach Scan
Kaspersky Security Cloud is a minimal but decent free iOS security app with a secure VPN. The included VPN provides 300 MB of daily data (better than Avira), and it includes a no-logs policy, which means that even Kaspersky isnât tracking your browsing history.
Using Kasperskyâs VPN, I was also able to stream high-quality video without slowdown, but unfortunately Kasperskyâs free version doesnât include the option to choose your server from its global network, so youâre stuck with automatically connecting to a local server. For that option, youâll need to upgrade.
Kasperskyâs breach scanning is pretty much identical to TotalAVâs breach scanner â simply enter your email address, and Kaspersky will check your email against a massive database of breached logins.
Kaspersky also includes a free password manager app â the app provides convenient auto-filling, password generating, and 256-bit AES encryption for user logins, but the free version is limited to only 15 passwords, which isnât very good compared to other free password managers.
Kasperskyâs paid iOS plans include anti-phishing protection and unlimited password storage across desktop and mobile devices, but Kasperskyâs multi-device plans, which start at $29.99 / year, are a better value â adding unlimited VPN data and protection for multiple devices, including iOS, Mac, PC, and Android.
Bottom Line:
Kasperskyâs free iOS app is a decent sample of Kasperskyâs full offering, and 300 MB of daily VPN access is pretty good as long as you arenât streaming video or gaming. Upgrading to premium protection gets you unlimited VPN browsing, unlimited password storage, anti-phishing, and parental controls â thereâs a free 30-day trial of Kaspersky Security Cloud Premium and Family offered in the free app.

- Lookout Personal for iOS â Good Breach Monitoring & Anti-Theft Tools
- Lookout Personal for iOS â Good Breach Monitoring & Anti-Theft Tools
Lookout Personal for iOS provides an app update scanner, basic data breach monitoring, and missing device location tools for free users. Lookoutâs System Advisor tool will give you notifications if your system is due for an update, which is only useful if youâre really good at ignoring iOSâs persistent update notifications.
However, Lookoutâs Locate tools are pretty good â if you lose your device, you can go to the website and track your device on a map, issue a remote alarm, or even display a message on your screen to help good samaritans return your device to you. Lookout will even save the last location of your phone before its battery dies â which is a super helpful feature!
Lookoutâs last free feature is an on-demand data breach scanner thatâs almost identical to TotalAVâs breach scanner. Simply enter your email and Lookout will let you know if any of your logins have been compromised in a data breach.
