I’ve been a prank caller since I was old enough to dial a phone, and it’s gotten me into (and out of) more trouble than I care to admit.
But now that we’re mobile-dependent, my prankster side has found some new ways to express itself. Here are three of my favorite apps for prank calling from your smartphone.

Prank calls aren’t the popular medium they once were. Caller ID, a more sensitive society, and legal issues made prank call comedy too difficult to do consistently well. However, there is a small, loyal fan base for prank calls and there are a few apps to help with that. There are two types of prank call apps as far as we can tell. The first is apps that fake voices and spoof caller IDs and the second are sources where you can listen or view prank calls by other people. We have a healthy smattering of both here. Most video streaming services have comedy of various forms and that usually includes content like prank call shows. You can browse through Hulu, Netflix, or whatever other services you use. However, we did find that Amazon Prime Video has Crank Yankers, one of the bigger prank calls shows from the last 20 years or so. Thus, we’ll recommend that one first, but feel free to search others for other prank call shows.

AndroidRock Voice Changer is an excellent app in its class. It lets you change or modulate your voice in a variety of ways. The app boasts nearly two dozen total effects and you can record them for future playback. You can also add effects on audio you recorded before. It’s a bit difficult to use this in a prank phone call, but if you pre-record enough responses you can probably get through a couple of good ones. The app is free with no in-app purchases, but it does have ads.
Automatic Call Recorder

Automatic Call Recorder – best prank call apps
Automatic Call Recorder is what the name implies. This app records your phone calls for later playback. It’s mostly useful for business and personal uses. However, something like this can also help with prank callers. You can record each call and play it back later for the fun of it. The app also supports Google Drive and Dropbox backups.
The pro version is a bit pricey, but adds some good customization features to the list. Since all call recorders don’t work for everyone and Android has some weird rules for it, we also recommend our best call recorder apps list to find more options for something like this.
Fake Call Prank

Fake Call Prank is a different kind of prank call app. You schedule the app to place a fake call to you. This is great for a variety of uses, including messing with your friends or getting out of social engagements by needing to take a phone call. You can set the caller’s name, number, and picture. Additionally, you can use presets like police or pizza. You can even give it a custom ringtone and record a voice to playback when the call begins. It worked fine in our testing and it’s a free app with some advertisements.

JokesPhone is a prank call app with a bunch of pre-recorded prank calls. You place the call and the app takes care of the prank for you. Each call is made from a third-party service so it’s not traceable to your mobile device. Additionally, each call is recorded for your amusement. Like most, you pay for calls and the cost is a little expensive. It probably doesn’t help when a call goes to voicemail and you lose your call credit. It works well aside from that. There is another app, Juasapp, that is a carbon copy of this one just with different colors. You can use either one.

MyPhoneRobot is one of the more popular prank call apps on Android. It’s one of the prank call apps with pre-recorded messages. You pay for credits, place the call, and the app does its thing. It also records the prank calls for your enjoyment later. It’s nothing too absurd or unique in this space. The credits can be pricey and the recorded messages are hit or miss. However, it does work and it also hides your phone number.

Podcast Addict is one of the most popular podcast apps and it’s a good spot for prank call fans. There are a variety of podcasts with a prank call theme, including The Prank Call Podcast, Madhouse Radio, The Snow Plow Show, and many others. In fact, podcasts are where you’re likely to find the most recent in prank call humor. Podcast Addict is a simple, functional UI with a variety of download and playback options. If you don’t like it, you can also try Pocket Casts, Doggcatcher, or Google Podcasts.
Spotify, Google Play Music, Apple Music, etc
Price: Free / $9.99 per month (usually)

Spotify, Google Play Music, Apple Play Music, and other music streaming sites are actually not too terrible for prank call fans. Most of these services have classics like The Jerky Boys, even if their humor didn’t age well with the times. If a prank call album exists anywhere on the Internet, it’s likely at least one of the many streaming services available. They all cost about the same and have close to the same selection.
Voice Changer by Baviux
Price: Free / $2.99
Voice Changer by Baviux is another decent voice changer app. It boasts nearly four dozen effects along with a variety of other features. You can record voices, create images with sound with the ability to share to Facebook and WhatsApp, and you can even create voices from text although the voices do come across as robotic rather than human.
This works great with apps like Fake Call Prank where you can record yourself and then set it in Fake Call Prank to play when you pick up the fake call, thus prank calling yourself for the benefit of those around you. You can also use this app for free via Google Play Pass if you use that.
YouTube
Price: Free / $12.99 per month
YouTube is a good option for much the same reasons as Amazon Prime Video or Spotify. There is a metric ton of prank call videos on YouTube. You can watch them for entertainment or to get some ideas. You can find clips from famous names in the medium like Crank Yankers and The Jerky Boys on YouTube. The service is free with ads or you can pay the $12.99 per month to remove ads and enable background play.

Prank phone calls! They apparently never get old as there are oodles of prank phone call apps across the App Store. Our app of choice though for phony phone calls is Prank Dial. The app is pre-populated with hundreds of prank calls for you to choose from and the app takes care of all the hard work for you.
Just choose a prank for the available options, enter in a little information, and hit go! The app will call them and sounds just like a real voice. It listens for them to talk and can interpret when it needs to respond with the next prompt on the script.
All users get three free calls each day though if you’d to go all Crank Yankers yourself, you can pony up for extra credits.
The app itself looks great and modern unlike many prank apps that haven’t been updated in years. It regularly has gotten new features including news calls and a call log to save all your previous prank calls to. When it comes to prank phone calls, this is our go-to.

Let’s face it. For better or worse, I can’t rightly sit here and compile a list of so-called prank apps and not include at least one that made fart noises. It just had to be done! So without further ado… let one rip for the aptly-named Fart Sounds & Annoying Noises app.
This app is basically just a soundboard that is comprised of farts and other annoying sound effects. They’re all… uh… interestingly named. Fart noises such as “Grandma’s Casserole,” “Three Too Many Corn Dogs,” and “Loud and Proud.” Just tap and play them any time you’d like!
As a modern take on the classic prank soundboard, there are many other ways to invoke these sounds. You can tap on them and let them fly, or you could try something more detailed. Perhaps motion detection. Once you choose your sound, the app can use the accelerometer in your phone to detect when someone moves it. When they do, it will play your chosen audio.
Another option is a countdown. Select your annoying noise, choose how long you want to delay the trigger, place your phone near a friend, and walk away. 30 seconds later and that fart will go off and you were nowhere near.
My favorite though is using Apple Watch. You can place your phone in perfect position, walk away, then when the time is right, trigger the sound from your Apple Watch. There isn’t a lot else to this app but it does make everything easy to use. Apple’s Share Sheet is built-in which makes it easy to share to other services like an iMessage or an email. Recordings are all saved in the app so you can revisit and access them at any time.

Ok… here me out. This is an absurdly simple app but it is hilarious and a bit evil. Have you ever had a cricket in your home and it just kept chirping but you couldn’t find it? That is what this app does with your Apple Watch.
This single-task app will randomly play a cricket sound, annoying anyone nearby. It uses the watch’s built-in speakers to send out a chirp, tricking people nearby into thinking a cricket has made its way inside.
Chirps can be sent automatically at random, but it also supports complications. Just add the Crickets, please complicating to the watch face and tap. No one will suspect it is you and since this is on Apple Watch, it is even more tricky since people don’t realize that Apple Watch can do such things.
